A 3mm scale 1:100, with 12mm gauge track
In the 1860’s there was a planned extension to the Chichester to Midhurst railway line to connect with the LSWR at Haslemere. In reality the line never progressed beyond the planning stage and this model is an interpretation of what could have been. Centred around the planned intermediate station at Stedham, it includes a junction between the LSWR and LBSC systems. The LBSC connection being electrified and served by services between Haslemere and Pulborough, the LSWR branch retains a rural atmosphere with services from Midhurst and Petersfield.

The model is built to a scale of 3mm to 1 foot and is usually operated in the post nationalisation era and can be operated in the Southern railway period when requested. The layout is almost entirely hand made including the trackwork, buildings, locomotives, multiple units, rolling stock etc. as there is nothing available ready to run in this scale apart from the old Tri-ang models which were manufactured in the 1950’s & 1960’s none of which are appropriate for this layout.

The buildings are based on those located in the Sussex and Hampshire with a couple from farther afield. A variety of steam and diesel stock operate the services on the LSWR branch including M7 and H classes on the pull push services, larger engines on the through passenger services and goods trains are hauled by a variety of 0-6-0 locomotives. Yard shunting is performed with a C14 steam loco or class 07 diesel. The electrified LBSC lines has a wide variety of electric multiple units in service with 2 and 4 car outer suburban types and 4 car express units on the long distance services. A Bulleid Double Deck unit is also operating a rush hour suburban service.

It is not possible to purchase ready to run road vehicles in this scale, consequently there is a mix of vehicles on the layout from a variety of sources, look out for the Austin A30 which came from a Christmas cracker and the tree lopper which is made from a Matchbox bus.
