An N-Gauge trip into the blue diesel era
Meldon West is a fictional quarry layout, predominately modelled during the transition from BR Blue to BR Sectorisation in the 1980’s. Although you will see some more modern stock occasionally making an appearance. This is a ‘might-have-been’ small extension to the west of Meldon Quarry in Devon, had the need for aggregates grown.
The layout began life as a place for me to test modelling techniques before I start a larger project. The track plan is based on a simple inglenook design with an added run-around loop at the front of the layout for added operational interest.
The layout is 3 foot by 1 foot and uses the British Finescale Finetrax system, this uses code 40 rail set to N gauge standards. The layout is DCC operated whilst points and signals are analogue, operated via a control panel mounted at the rear of the layout. The rolling stock mainly consists of ready-to-run models, with a few kit built wagons and locomotives.
